What is amber?

Baltic amber, also known as succinite, originates from various now-extinct conifer species, primarily Pinus succinifera, with estimates suggesting around 350 different types. It contains the highest percentage of succinic acid among all amber types—up to 8% of its total weight.

The richest deposits are believed to be in the Kaliningrad region, as well as northern Poland, Lithuania, and along the Baltic Sea coast. Its age is estimated at approximately 28 to 54 million years, making it older than the Baltic Sea itself.

Baltic amber, beneath its yellowish-brown oxidized crust, can be transparent, semi-transparent, or completely opaque—known as milky amber. It comes in a wide range of colors: snow-white, beige, lemon yellow, honey, orange, red, and brown. Polish scientist Adam Chetnik documented around 200 variations of amber in his Small Dictionary of Amber Varieties.

But its diversity doesn’t end with colors and forms. Nature has truly outdone itself—within amber, it “painted” thousands of stunning and unique patterns. These organic masterpieces could easily be displayed in the Louvre alongside the world’s most famous paintings.

How to care for your amber jewelry

Clean your amber regularly.
The best way is to wipe it gently with a cloth made of 100% cotton or classic denim. You can clean amber dry or with a cloth dampened with lukewarm water. If necessary, you may use a bit of mild soap or dish detergent, but always rinse thoroughly and dry with a cotton cloth.

Avoid microfiber or any synthetic polishing cloths. Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steamers, or chemical agents. If you need to clean the silver part of the jewelry, use a silver polishing cloth—but avoid touching the amber itself.

Store your jewellery carefully.
The ideal way to store amber jewellery is in a cotton or silk pouch after wearing. This protects it from scratches. We don’t recommend storing amber jewellery together with other pieces, especially those with sharp metal edges, as this increases the risk of damage.

Protect your amber from chemicals.
Amber is sensitive to substances like perfumes, hairsprays, or disinfectants. Frequent contact with such chemicals can cause a whitish film or dullness on its surface. If that happens, the piece would need to be re-polished.

Note: The colors in the photographs may slightly differ from the actual product due to screen settings.
